We’re happy to inform you that the ASEAN Cyber Shield Exchange Student Program (ASEAN CS-ESP) officially opened registration. This program was held at Kangwon National University, 1 Gangwondaehak-gil, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do, Republic of Korea. Kangwon National University is a university that managed to leapfrog into the top 20 of Korean universities in various world university evaluations. KNU was also selected as the first national university of Campus Innovation Park (designated as an urban high-tech industrial complex) and was selected as Regional innovation project based on local government-university cooperation in 2022 (Fostering core fields precision medicine, digital healthcare, and smart hydrogen energy).

ASEAN CS-ESP is designed to prepare you to meet the future for Cybersecurity specialists in the public and private sectors of your country, as well as the global spaces. Most of lecture is rooted in computer science and reaches out to aspects of the business and social context of cybersecurity. You will have the opportunity to learn and experience on key cyber security principles including threat and vulnerability management, laws and ethics relating to security compliance and implementation, cyber risk over AI and cryptocurrency, cyber incident response, digital forensics processes, disaster recovery and business continuity following cyber incidents during one year at Kangwon National University of Korea. In addition, this program will lead you to the enhanced knowledge, many friends and different cultures.

Important Date : 

  1. August 31st, 2023 : Deadline of Recommendation 
  2. October 31st, 2023 : Notification of Acceptance
  3. November – December 2023 : Notification of Results
  4. January – February 2024 : Program Preparation
  5. March – December 2024 : Program Execution

Program Curriculum : 

  • Cybersecurity
    • Introduction to Cybercrime and Digital Forensics (learn about the importance of information security in protecting sensitive data and preventing unauthorized access)
    • Introduction to Cybercrime and Digital Forensics (learn about the techniques used to investigate cybercrime and gather digital evidence)
    • Information Security Policy (learn how to develop policies that align with organizational goals and how to communicate these policies effectively to stakeholders)
    • Global Cooperation in Cybersecurity (learn about different international frameworks and agreements related to cyber security and how to collaborate with other countries and organizations to address cyber threats)
    • Cyber Risk and Incident Response I, II (learn how to identify potential cyber
    • risks, assess the impact of these risks, and develop strategies for managing them)
    • Network Security I, II (learn how to secure network infrastructure and prevent unauthorized access)
    • System Security I, II (learn about different security mechanisms and how to apply them to protect computer systems from cyber threats)
  • Basic Korean for foreigner (an introductory course for beginners that covers grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and basic conversation skills in the Korean language and cultures)

Requirements :

Participant requirements :

  • Any full time junior or senior university student from an ASEAN country.
  • Students majoring in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent majors.
  • Students who are also enrolled in their own university while studying at Kangwon National University.
  • Students who can attend lectures in English.
  • Students who are eligible for overseas travel.

Documents requirements : 

  • Letter of introduction with your study plan (provided a CV form file, Appendix 1).
  • A copy of valid Passport (attached as a file).
  • Academic transcripts (attached as a file).
  • Certificate of enrollment (attached as a file).
  • Recommendation letter (attached as a file): should be submitted either 1 or 2 
  • The Office of International Affairs or an affiliated department from University
  • Recommendation letter from ASEAN Secretariat

Acceptance of application :

  • Application period: Until August 31st every year.
  • Application submission: The Office of ASEAN CS-ESP, Kangwon National University. Submit by email to “[email protected]

Application Process : 

  • There are two process for student recruitment :
    • First, recommendation by the ASEAN Secretariat.
    • Second, recommendation by universities that have signed an MoU with Kangwon National University.
  • In addition to existing MoU signed universities, Kangwon National University can establish new partnerships with universities in ASEAN countries to receive student recommendations.
  • The final selection of trainees is made by the recruitment committee, composed of Kangwon National University and Gangneung Wonju National University, which has the authority to make final decisions.
